Preparing for Promotion

I went to my school’s graduation the other day and as I’m watching people cross the stage, I tend to ask myself, is this person going to be OK.? i’ve never judged anyone for their work ethic because it’s different for everybody but I was asking it about the people who I’ve always seen in the hallway never in class or they’re always on their phone. School is a good way to learn discipline, but when the people who didn’t really “go to school” cross the stage for graduation, I have to say I’m a bit surprised. School sets a lot of expectations upon students, but you’ll be graduating with those who didn’t have to follow them. I find that bewildering.

I would say I have good work ethic and that I’m responsible for making sure I learn when I walk into that school building. My school though doesn’t help with anything other than that. It’s true that most of us have to look for outside opportunities in order to open up doors for ourselves. But what about those kids who don’t have anyone to push them to do that. Many students don’t want to push themselves and I think it’s the school’s lack of support. Don’t get me wrong STAFF is very supportive, but when it comes to opening up your options, no one is coming to you as a student to help figure it out.

I can admit that. I’m a bit under prepared for graduation, but I’m sure as hell gonna start now. I won’t look back at the opportunities I’ve missed before. I’m on a wider search now. I’m willing to do whatever is needed, for me, to be satisfied with myself and my work as I walk across that stage. Because when I do, I’ll know what’s coming next. If we think four years of high-school was the end of suffering and hard work, life is a rude awakening.
