Leadership

To understand leadership is to understand scaffolding. Scaffolding is essential for big construction projects as it provides a platform for workers to build a solid structure at great heights. The taller the building, the more scaffolding that's required. The most important part however, is that the scaffold is temporary. It eventually comes down. But even when it does, you're left with this beautiful structure that's able to stand alone. That's leadership. It's about creating leaders, not followers. I love being able to pour the necessary skills and confidence into others. Create a strong foundation and watch them grow. And most importantly, when I step away, I see a powerful structure that can comfortably stand alone and I get to witness a leader!

To watch this young leader command the room and lead a 2 hour discussion with incoming 9th graders on 'Building a Resume' left us in awe and at the same time, proud. 3 years ago she sat in those seats and locked in to the messages and motivation delivered to her. I knew she was ready, but to witness the leadership lessons being put to work, priceless!
