Raising the Bar
During our inaugural year of the HLM Scholarship in 2022, we awarded a group of deserving students from CT. Our hope was that the recipients would represent the meaning behind the award well into future. Well, Tenzin raised the bar and took it to a whole other level!
From Tenzin Dhondup:
‘This semester has been really challenging in trying to balance school, work, and my personal life, but I’m really thankful for my friends and family for all of the love and support they’ve given me! I’m also thankful for all of the encouragement I’ve gotten from Kendrick and the team! This semester and year has really made me more confident in what I want to pursue in the future—I hope to dedicate myself to advocacy work and serving others and the communities I love! I’m also thankful for all of the experiences I’ve gained this year that have helped me come to this point. I’ve spent more time with HAVEN Free Clinic, where I continued my role as a patient advocate and connecting my patients to the free speciality care they need and deserve! Most recently, I was selected to be the Director of my clinical department and I’m so excited for this opportunity to improve our department for the health and wellbeing of our patients! And at Yale Emergency Medical Services, I’ve continued to work as an EMT at athletic events, facilitate exams for EMT-certifying classes, and more recently, teach CPR/AED/First Aid classes. This summer, I will be studying the microbiology of HIV and following a lead in the HIV cure effort at Yale Medical School while continuing my work at the free clinic, community organizing efforts with HUSKY4IMMIGRANTS, and college mentorship program for first-generation and low-income high school students! I’m thankful for all of the support and mentorship I’ve been given from the HLM team and family and can’t wait to continue pursuing what I’m most passionate about!’
